7-10 Days

24 Sep

7-10 days to hear back about the blood test.

I asked her why this test is not part of a routine screening when people are seen for muscle weakness, especially if this disease is so easily diagnosed through a simple blood test. She said they are hoping to prove with this study that the test for Pompe disease should be given before more invasive procedures are ordered. She thinks that many people have endured unnecessary muscle biopsies and nerve conduction studies and that many people spend an average of seven years looking for a diagnosis when possibly they could get a definitive answer with one tube of blood.

So we will see.

In either case, there is currently no cure and the prognosis is the same from what I can tell. However, with Pompe disease there is an enzyme replacement therapy that would lessen symptoms and slow the progression of the muscle weakness.

I’m not anticipating or hoping for a certain outcome for those wondering. No matter what the result is, I know that God is good, that He has promised good to me, and that I can rest in the promises in His Word.
